4. Risk Assessment and Crisis Mitigation: Employee International Travel unrelated to a Student Education Abroad Program

  • International Enrollment and Services (IES) staff travel internationally on a regular basis, but travel authorizations do not currently route through TGE or Academic Affairs. Would this policy change this procedure? Should it be included in the policy?
  • Could there or should there be an exception for IES staff traveling for recruitment purposes due to frequency?

It is definitely good that we have all of this information in a policy. Some comments:

4.5--"ETSU Colleges will manage…" Not all employees are in a college. For example, International Enrollment Services personnel conduct international travel but are not part of a college or Academic Affairs for that matter. Should this language be revised?

4.10 discussed export control. However, there are no links to relevant university information or federal government regarding export control. I found information on export on the ORSPA page, but is that the relevant information for this policy? I suggest that a link to relevant information be included so that people are using the same resource.

A more global comment: Throughout the document there is no consistency about spelling out International Travel Risk Assessment Committee (ITRAAC) or just using ITRAAC. What seems to be standard in policy documents is to write out the proper noun once and include the abbreviation following and then using only the abbreviation following. Doing so would make the policy easier to read.
